About ActionShootingScores.com

Shooting a match is fun. Scoring one is a pain.

ActionShootingScores.com is a web application that computes scores for action shooting matches such as International Defensive Pistol (IDPA), United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA), and Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) Cowboy Action Shooting. International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) is in development. You simply create a match, compose a list of shooters, enter their times, points, penalties, etc. and the scores are calculated. Then anyone with an internet connection can view the results.

I'm a shooter - it's fun, it's something my husband and I do together, and should the you-know-what hit the fan it's a skill that could be a lifesaver. Gary and I belong to a local action shooting club where I volunteered to assist the IDPA match director set up the monthly matches. When the match director resigned, the club's board of directors asked me to take his place. I am no IDPA expert, but I do show up. Gary and I, along with several other club members do the match set up and run the matches. No one volunteered to do the scoring, so that task became mine.

I quickly found that going through a pile of score sheets using a pencil and a calculator, then compiling the results and publishing them was not  fun. So, being a computer programmer I put together a spreadsheet to automate much of this. That was a big increase in productivity and a big reduction of pain, but it was error prone and it felt clumsy.

I solved my match scoring problem with this pain killer web application - You use a standards compliant browser and go to this web page. For free. I hope it works for others too.

For my techie friends, this web application is written in Ruby using the Ruby on Rails framework. It uses MySQL as its database and is served up by Mongrel. All this infrastructure is open source software which made it possible for me to create this site investing (mostly) my time. ActionShootingScores is hosted on Planet Argon.
